Return from Nationals

1st May 2012 | Miscellanious

Well, I’m back home after going to Chicago for the 2012 Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference. I’m happy to report that the trip was an enormous success (with the exception of me and my teammate both getting sick halfway through), and I’m able to add something big to my resume that I never had before.

I’ve competed in the web application team event of BPA for three years now. I’ve won state twice, and had gotten 8th and 6th the last two years respectively. This year, I am excited to report that I finally made the podium when my team member and I were awarded third place in the event! This was the first time that anyone from my high school has ever gotten a national event award like that (we even contacted the previous teacher who ran it almost 20 years ago to confirm this). This has become a huge deal for me, and my community as a whole. Seeing as I’m currently working in the web application field, this is a huge thing for me to add to a resume, and may land me a job (or raise) in the future. It is also a confirmation to me that I’m good at what I do, which is a big self confidence booster.

So with that big news out there, time for an update on everything else. I’m hearing back from the rest of my scholarships soon, and will be doing a scholarship roundup post soon. Also, I’m very close to launching that new online business of mine that I mentioned last week. Unfortunately, I’m having some problems with my server and domain name connection, but hopefully that will be resolved soon and I will be rolling out the beta of that site. My readers on this blog will be among the first to hear about it for sure. Also, I’m continuing to expand on my other business projects as well. While my niche site project has slowed down for the time being unfortunately, I will be reviving it as soon as my AP exams are all over in a couple weeks, and then I will be writing that SEO post that people have been waiting for. Also, I’m about to wrap up one of my freelance gigs, and another of them is about to expand significantly. Although I hope to focus more of my business on the online aspects than freelancing, for now it is definitely what is making my company survive. Hopefully things pick up in the future even more.

That’s it for this wrap up. I will be posting again this week, so be on the lookout for more.
